About the Artists

Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra

Radio Filharmonisch Orkest was founded in 1945 by Albert van Raalte. The orchestra was subsequently conducted by Paul van Kempen, Bernard Haitink, Jean Fournet, Willem van Otterloo, Hans Vonk, Sergiu Comissiona, Edo de Waart, Jaap van Zweden and Markus Stenz. In September 2019, the American conductor Karina Canellakis joined as chief conductor. The orchestra is in the service of the Dutch public broadcasting corporation.

Edward Gardner

British conductor Edward Gardner has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Wiener Symphoniker, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala di Milano, and the Royal Opera House.

Gardner has been principal conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic since 2015. He was recently appointed Principal Conductor Designate of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, with his tenure commencing in September 2021.
