About the Artist
Gabriel Landstedt
An exciting and sensitive pianist, Gabriel Landstedt has showcased his talent at various festivals and competitions across North America and Europe. His recent accolades include the Grand Prize and Best Performance of the Commissioned Piece at the Architecture of Music Competition, the Grand Prize in the Royal Sound Music Competition, the bronze medal in the WPTA Finland Competition, and the UBC Concerto Competition runner-up.
Gabriel Landstedt’s musical journey began in Los Lunas, New Mexico, where he began studying piano with his mother at age five. By age fourteen, he was accepted to the studio of Falko Steinbach at the University of New Mexico, where he was awarded the Presidential Scholarship and the Theodore Presser Award. Landstedt graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree and Second Major in German, where his German Honors thesis earned him the Excellence in German Studies Book Award. His bachelor’s studies included a year abroad at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg in Germany, where he studied under Markus Bellheim and Silke-Thora Matthies. Landstedt pursued further studies at the Manhattan School of Music under Arkady Aronov and completed his Master of Music degree at UBC under Mark Anderson. He is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at UBC as a recipient of the university’s premier Four Year Fellowship.
Outside of his musical pursuits, Landstedt is an active writer, with his poetry being adapted into musical pieces performed by the United States Coast Guard Band. His diverse interests also extend to outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, and soccer. Landstedt currently resides in Connecticut.
