About the Ensemble
Cellist Yunwen Chen is developing her career as a chamber musician, soloist, and teacher. She has collaborated with musicians worldwide at the Perlman Music Workshop, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Yellow Barn, and Kneisel Hall. Since January 2024, Yunwen has been a teaching artist at Boston Arts Academy.
Born & raised in Nanjing, China, Yunwen’s professional music training began at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with Dahai Liu. Her piano trio “Y”, founded at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, was a Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition winner.
At age 16, Yunwen came to the United States to study music at the Interlochen Arts Academy, where she was a concerto competition winner. Between 2013 and 2021, Yunwen studied at the New England Conservatory of Music with Paul Katz. She completed her formal training at the Manhattan School of Music, earning a Professional Performance Diploma under the guidance of Julia Lichten.
Yunwen plays on a 1771 instrument made by Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi.
