About the Artist
Named one of CBC’s Hot 30 under 30 Canadian Classical Musicians, pianist Linda Ruan has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York. Performances in the current season include appearances in the Juilliard Focus Festival and engagement with the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra. Notable past performances include appearances with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, Royal Conservatory Orchestra, and the Xinghai Philharmonic Orchestra; solo recitals and performances in North America, Asia and Europe.
Linda has been a prizewinner in the PianoArts North American Piano Competition, CMFTA National Piano Competition and the Seattle International Piano Competition. During the summers, she took part in the Yellowbarn Young Artist Program, Banff Chamber Music Residency and Piano Masterclasses, Morningside Music Bridge and the Holland International Music Sessions. Furthermore, she has worked with esteemed musicians such as Leon Fleisher, Maxim Vengerov, and Wenzel Fuchs.
An avid supporter of charity organizations, she performed the Clara Schumann Piano Concerto in a benefit concert for the Vancouver Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre which raised over $3,000 in 2017. Additionally, from 2016 to 2019, she was an instructor at Reaching Out Through Music, a non-profit organization committed to providing musical opportunities for children in Toronto.
In addition to her solo career, she formed La Fiammata with fellow pianist Charissa Vandikas, who are prize-winners of Suzana Szorenyi International Piano Duo Competition, Northwest International Piano Ensemble Competition and Canadian Music Competition. La Fiammata has performed as soloists with Orchestre de la Francophonie and Royal Conservatory Orchestra. In 2019, they premiered “density swells upclose in breath” by Canadian composer Julia Mermelstein, a commission sponsored by the Ontario Arts Council.
Born in Tokyo, Linda began learning the piano at the age of seven in Shanghai after returning to the country. She completed her Bachelor of Music with Honours at The Glenn Gould School under the tutelage of James Anagnoson and Li Wang. Currently, she is studying at The Juilliard School in the studio of Hung-Kuan Chen.
